The consultation
In November 2021 EirGrid and SONI published the ‘Shaping our Electricity Future’ Roadmap.
There were changes to government policy in both Ireland and Northern Ireland since the publication of the Shaping Our Electricity Future roadmap. In Ireland, the Climate Action Plan 2021 revised the 2030 RES-E target from at least 70% to up to 80%. Separately the Climate Act 2021 introduced the requirement for carbon budgets covering the period to 2035. The Climate Change Act (Northern Ireland) 2022 also set a requirement for the existing 70% RES-E target by 2030, set by the NI Energy Strategy, to be increased to 80% and has introduced the requirement for carbon budgets.
Your views and suggestions
We worked to update the Shaping Our Electricity Future roadmap before the end of 2022 in response to the policy changes and planned for publication in early December 2022. Preliminary technical studies commenced and in parallel, we facilitated a 4 week call for inputs to seek views on what should be considered within the update.
We welcomed engagement with you as part of this process and encouraged you to provide any information you considered to be relevant.
Outcomes
Please see below Shaping Our Electricity Future Version 1.1 report where in Appendix 2 (beginning at page 173) you will find the responses to the submissions received through this consultation.
