It is a legal requirement, as re-stated by Irish Government under the Fourth National Biodiversity Action Plan, that all public authorities have a Biodiversity Strategy in place.
Since the Irish government declared the twinned climate and biodiversity emergency in 2019, EirGrid has been accelerating its action on nature, onshore and offshore.
We are now refining our biodiversity action in a formal strategy framework. This will deepen our ambition to act for nature on our assets, on assets owned by our partner ESB, and in the communities affected by our projects.
EirGrid invites you to get involved and help us scope out the priority biodiversity issues and actions in our strategy.
We have developed a short questionnaire to guide this consultation but also include a freeform box for any other comments or suggestions you may have. Thank you for contributing to Ireland’s action for nature

Q2. What do you think are the biggest challenges facing Ireland’s biodiversity offshore?
Q3. Are there any particular aspects of biodiversity you think should be prioritised by EirGrid in their role as the onshore grid operator and offshore grid operator and owner?
